It was thought that the event reached its limits last year, however, the 2023 Hungary Sakura Cup beat lots of records at so many levels. The tournament had 210 participants from 35 clubs from 13 countries – Germany, Serbia, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, Austria, Croatia, Great Britain, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Japan and Hungary took part in the tournament. Despite the difficult times in Ukraine, we were happy to host kendo children from Odessa.
It was amazing to see that the event had 160 children and junior competitors. The tournament was held on six courts, which is a record on its own in Hungary and the region. H.E. Mr Masato Ohtaka, the Japanese Ambassador, accepted our invitation again, Mr Ohtaka enjoyed the event and was happy to see many young kendokas practising in Central-Eastern Europe.
We wish to thank all the referees and the organizers for their hard work. It showed that the kendo community has a very high level of cooperation and we all understand the importance of developing children and juniors.
Also, we would like to say thank you to our sponsors:
European Kendo Federation
VSD Kendo Klub, Dunakeszi
National Botanic Garden, Hungary
Mattel, Poland
Okami Sportshop, Poland
See you in 2024!
